In this tranquil setting our brief was to build exactly what our client, a knowledgeable architect with his own practice and very original ideas, planned for his own home.

His striking design perfectly complements the architectural style of the property, a beautiful listed building. Entered from the dining room of the main house, the conservatory makes the most of its peaceful location in gorgeous mature gardens. A particularly dramatic feature

is the upward slanting slate roof which incorporates glazed sections to allow the light to flood into the new extension. More light enters via the glazed front elevation and gable end. Unusual astragal detailing breaks up the large areas of glass without detracting from the airy and bright atmosphere of the new addition with its splendid views of the garden.

Another unconventional touch was the choice of timber lining with a National Trust Green finish on the outside wall rather than natural stone. A nice detail here was that the finish our client chose matched the finish used on the existing windows of the property. Inside the conservatory contemporary design and finishes contrast well with the more traditional furnishings and décor in the rest of the house. The whole scheme is integrated by extending the slate floor from the dining room through to the new extension.

The end result far exceeded all our expectations. This new conservatory combines many innovative features and clever ideas to create a truly spectacular garden room, a unique extension to a lovely property.
